Half Pint Volume 23 ✨
Noticing your first ring tan line - Polly N, half pint reader.
Hello! Welcome back to half pint. As I sit here with my thermostat hitting 29 degrees, I hope the rest of you are equally melting during this May bank holiday heatwave. This edition is dedicated to one of London’s many glorious neighbourhoods, Islington.
Half Pint #1 - Quince Bakery
Founded by pastry chef, Anna Hingham and named after her favourite fruit - the quince - this bakery has a delicious selection of pastries, buns and bread. We ordered fantastic iced lattes (the ideal milk-to-coffee ratio) a rhubarb bun and a cheesy, leeky savoury pastry. Perfect!
Half Pint #2 - Portis Pizza
Another Islington half pint is Portis Pizza. This small takeaway spot offers the simple joy of pizza by the slice. A concept more at home in New York but these thick sourdough bases are baked fresh and make the perfect lunch for around a fiver a slice. You can also enjoy your pizza on the little terrace next door. The burrata slice was my favourite.
Half Pint #3 - Sleepovers
So the reason why this edition is dedicated to Islington, a few weeks ago I packed my bag and made my way to my best friend’s flat for a planned sleepover. I don’t mean a drunken last minute decision to stay at your pal’s after a night out (equally joyful but not fun the next morning) but a proper old school sleepover. We watched She’s The Man (a classic), took some melatonin and fell asleep excited for a lazy morning exploring Islington.
What’s your Islington half pint?
